Actors Who Hated Kissing Each Other On Screen

  Famous

When you’re watching a movie, do you think the actors are enjoying everything that is happening? Turns out it’s not always as fun as it looks. Take on the kiss scenes. Not only is it a bit awkward to kiss on cue in front of a large group of people, with the director watching your every move, but there’s also the issue of personalities clashing. Actors and actresses are just people at the end of the day, and even though they might seem irresistible to you, they all have their tastes and preferences. Sure, most of the time they’re professionals and can put those issues aside for the sake of the movie, but that doesn’t mean they have to enjoy it. Here are a few actors who actually hated kissing each other on-screen.

1. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint

It just felt wrong for both of them. In the book, Hermione and Ron fall in love and the kiss seems natural. In real life, Emma and Rupert grew up together and their relationship was more similar to those of a brother and a sister than a couple. So kissing felt truly weird for them.

2. Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segel

The biggest issue was Jason Segel’s smoking habit. Alyson truly hated having to kiss someone who smells like an ashtray, so she introduced a fine for each kiss. Just $10 for a kiss. But considering the fact that they kiss nearly in every episode and do multiple takes, it cost Jason a pretty penny. He could lose around $200 a day, so eventually, he just quit smoking and it was all fine since then.

3. Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio

Kissing in “Titanic” was awkward at first but turned out fine. The issue came much later, when they were cast in a movie called “Revolutionary Road” and Kate’s Husband was directing it. That was very uncomfortable for Winslet. Another contributing factor was that Leo and Kate have become good friends by then and it was really weird kissing a good friend in front of her husband.

4. Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie

The two shared an on-screen kiss in “The Good Shepherd”, and Damon absolutely hated it. He and Jolie have been friends for years, so it was awkward. Not to mention the fact that Jolie was married to his good friend Brad Pitt at the time, so that added a whole new level of discomfort.

5. Helena Bonham Carter and Woody Allen

Helena Bonham Carter starred alongside Woody Allen in “Mighty Aphrodite” and the kiss scenes there was a nightmare. She said that Woody was very specific in his requests so it makes an already kissing scene even weirder, and trying to make it look realistic is nearly impossible. Another thing that made it harder was that Allen just absolutely does not respond to the kiss so it feels like kissing a wall. Helena said that she just got the feeling that he has serious trouble communicating with women.

6. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst

That iconic upside-down spiderman kiss was not fun to shoot at all. Tobey has since revealed that it was awful because he was hanging upside down, there’s water (the rain) pouring into his nose, and the mask that’s half rolled down his face is cutting off the air supply. Making that look sexy was not an easy feat. Tobey said it was more of a mouth to mouth than a kiss and there’s no way Kirsten could’ve enjoyed that.

7. Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson

Eric Stonestreet initially had issues with kissing Jesse Tyler Ferguson. It’s one thing if he had to kiss him a few times in a movie, but it’s a TV show with many seasons. He felt a bit uncomfortable because he’s straight. But eventually, he realized that it’s just a job, his character is gay and in a very happy relationship, it’s not a big deal at all, so he just learned to be comfortable with kissing a man on the show.

8. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal

Brokeback Mountains is a great movie, but the intimate scenes were hard on both actors. It was meant to be uncomfortable since their characters are just coming to terms with their feelings and sexuality, but the actors themselves found it hard to create chemistry too. Not to mention Heath Ledger’s girlfriend at the time was also in the movie and that must’ve made it even more awkward.

9. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling

When these two were filming “The Notebook,” they absolutely hated each other. Kissing scenes were torture to film, they didn’t even want to be in the same room if they didn’t have to. But what’s interesting is that after the movie was done, the two actually dated for a while. Does that mean that the initial hatred must’ve been just hiding their real feelings?
